Short version: your logs stay on your computer. CappyBud has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. We can’t see what you write, because it never leaves your device.
We’re planning an optional Pro plan, which will add accounts. You’ll never need one: everything Cappy does today stays free, works offline, and keeps your data on your computer.
The CappyBud app
What Cappy keeps, and where
Everything you put into CappyBud is stored in a small database on your own computer:
- your logs, and the day each one counts for
- your labels and their colors
- day summaries, which are made on your computer
- your settings, such as check-in times and whether Cappy starts with Windows
- the name you give Cappy to call you, if you add one
On Windows, this lives in %APPDATA%\cappybud. It isn’t uploaded, synced or backed up anywhere. That also means if you lose the computer, the logs are gone with it, so back up that folder if they matter to you.
What the app sends over the internet
Only one thing: checking for updates. A few seconds after Cappy starts, and every few hours while he runs, the app asks our servers whether there’s a newer version, and downloads it if there is.
That request contains what any download does: your IP address and basic technical details such as which file is being fetched. It contains none of your logs, labels, settings or name.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling CappyBud removes the app but keeps your logs, so reinstalling doesn’t lose them. To delete everything:
- Uninstall CappyBud.
- Delete the folder
%APPDATA%\cappybud(your logs and settings). - Optionally, delete
%LOCALAPPDATA%\@cappybuddesktop-updater(downloaded updates).
This website
No cookies, no analytics, no trackers. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes visitors’ IP addresses to serve pages and block abuse; we keep only short-lived technical logs for fixing problems. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Coming later: Pro and accounts
We’re working on CappyBud Pro, an optional paid plan for features that need the internet:
- Cloud backup and sync, so your logs survive a lost computer and follow you to a new one
- AI summaries of your days and weeks
Pro will need an account, since that’s how your synced logs and subscription are kept yours. But accounts will be completely optional:
- You’ll never be asked to sign up to use CappyBud. There’s no login screen and no account wall.
- The free app keeps working exactly as it does now: offline, with your logs only on your computer.
- Nothing leaves your computer unless you create an account and turn a Pro feature on.
- If you stop using Pro, you’ll be able to delete your account and everything stored with it.
Before Pro launches, we’ll update this page with exactly what an account stores, where it’s kept, who processes it (for example, the payment provider), and for how long.
Children
CappyBud isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect anyone’s personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Big changes, like Pro launching, will also be announced in the app.
